PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a red eye pixel to be appropriately corrected as a result without determining whether a pixel is a red eye pixel and to prevent an unnecessary correction from being made to a pixel which is not a red eye pixel. SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes: a region detection part for detecting a correction region including a red eye pixel from within an image represented by the obtained image data; and a red eye correction part for calculating saturation for every pixel for intended pixels included in the correction region detected, determining the degree of correction for every pixel in accordance with the saturation calculated, and making correction for every pixel so that color information decreases on the basis of the determined degree of correction.
