<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a matrix containing a pharmaceutically active molecule for using in tissue repair, regeneration and/or remodeling and/or drug delivery. <P>SOLUTION: Proteins are incorporated in a manner to be released by degradation of the matrix, enzymatic action and/or diffusion. One method is to bind heparin to the matrix by either covalent or non-covalent bonding methods to form a heparin-matrix. The heparin then non-covalently binds to heparin-binding growth factors to the protein matrix. Alternatively, a fusion protein containing a crosslinking region (e.g. a factor XIIIa substrate) and a native protein sequence can be constructed. Incorporation of degradable linkages between the matrix and bioactive factors can be particularly useful when long-term drug delivery is desired (e.g. in the case of nerve regeneration). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
