The method involves loading wire cloths (3, 4) after separation of a material web within a return region (RB) for influencing a humidity content and/or contamination condition of a suction or blowing unit (10). The unit is provided with two strips (14, 15) arranged parallel to each other in a wire running direction for forming an inlet opening or outlet opening (27). Size is variably adjusted transverse to the wire running direction for adjustment of a humidity content transverse profile, where the size is indirectly characterized by an operation of the suction or blowing unit. An independent claim is also included for a device for conditioning an endlessly rotating wire cloth in a machine for production of a material web such as card board or tissue-web and fibrous material web e.g. paper.
