PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a disposable diaper capable of favorably expressing engagement forces of mechanical fasteners for fixing the front body section and the back body section of the diaper. SOLUTION: This method for manufacturing the disposable diaper includes a process (A) for disposing mechanical fasteners 52 and 54 to be engaged with each other in the sides of both side edges 40a and 40b of a long sheet material 40 respectively near a planned cutting line 90 when cutting the long sheet material 40, to form fastening sections 52a and 54a to be engaged with each other. In the process (A), the mechanical fasteners 52 and 54 are disposed in such directions that the engagement force against a tensile force from the longitudinal direction Y of the long sheet material 40 becomes larger than the engagement force against a tensile force from a direction X orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of the long sheet material 40.
