The filter (7) has filter media (8) for retaining a particulate compound i.e. soot, of exhaust gas (2) produced by an internal combustion engine. A selective treating unit (12) selects the exhaust gas, where implementation of the selective treating unit is performed based on dependency of an analysis unit (11) for analyzing a driving mode of a motor vehicle. The selective treating unit comprises an actuator (21) for operating a distribution flap (22) and zones (23, 23') that are arranged inside an extension plane (P) of the filter media. The zones are distinct from one another. The driving mode is a city type low speed driving mode or a motorway type high speed driving mode. An independent claim is also included for a method for implementing a particle filter.
