PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent article and a method for producing the absorbent article for more reliably preventing leakage sideways without degrading a sense of fitness to a wearer when a joining part is provided. SOLUTION: The absorbent article 1 comprises a liquid-permeable front surface sheet 10, a liquid-impermeable back surface sheet 20, and an absorbing component 40 disposed between the front surface sheet 10 and the back surface sheet 20. A joining part 70 for joining at least the front surface sheet 10 and the absorbing component 40 is formed in the absorbent article 1. The absorbing component 40 comprises high-basis-weight regions 41, wherein the absorbent material 40A that forms the absorbing component 40 has a predetermined weight per unit area (basis weight, so to speak) and a low-basis-weight region 42, wherein the absorbent material 1 has a lower weight per unit area than that in the high-basis-weight regions 41. The low-basis-weight region 42 extends along the lengthwise direction L of the absorbent article 1, and is sandwiched between the high-basis-weight regions 41 in the widthwise direction W of the absorbent article 1.
