<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information gathering device and method, a program, and a recording medium, for aggregating information on total cost reduction so as to examine cost reduction for each of a plurality of products in consideration of an influence of a common component to be used in a plurality of machine types. <P>SOLUTION: A necessary component calculation part 12 specifies a production period based on a period of an application machine type 541 of VE (Value Engineering) plan information 53. Based on component information, i.e., base machine type cost information 517 of machine type-specific VE plan information 51, an aggregation part 13 calculating the number of components necessary for production on and after the specified period multiplies a VE unit price that is a difference between a plan-based unit price 536 and a post-VE unit price 537, by the number of the necessary components calculated by the necessary component number calculation part 12, and calculates the total amount of VE cost 540 that is the total amount of reduction.
