The method involves changing a relative movement between two rotatably mounted control elements (2, 2'), where mechanically-controlled adjusting and compensation elements i.e. deflection rollers (6), are arranged between the control elements. The adjusting element is arranged in such a manner that a way of a transmission unit (13) for transmitting force between the control elements is changeable by toothed wheels (8, 9, 11). The transmission unit is designed in the form of an endless belt and is made up of metal i.e. steel, plastic or rubber. An independent claim is also included for a device for changing length of a transmission unit between two rotatably arranged control elements.
