<p>Disclosed is an exhaust gas purifying catalyst for a saddle type vehicle, which comprises a first catalyst layer that is formed on the surface of a supporting body and a second catalyst layer that is formed on the first catalyst layer. The first catalyst layer comprises a carrier which is formed from a complex oxide containing 45-70% by mass of CeO2, 20-45% by mass of ZrO2, 2-20% by mass of Nd2O3, and 1-10% by mass of La2O3, and a catalyst component which is supported by the carrier and composed of Pd metal or Pd oxide. The second catalyst layer comprises a carrier which is formed from a complex oxide containing 50-95% by mass of ZrO2, 0-40% by mass of CeO2, 2-20% by mass of Nd2O3 and 1-10% by mass of La2O3, and a catalyst component which is supported by the carrier and composed of Rh metal or Rh oxide, or alternatively a catalyst component which is composed of Rh metal or Rh oxide and a catalyst component which is composed of Pt metal or Pt oxide, said components being supported by the carrier.</p> |
