PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for producing acrolein and/or acrylic acid with high efficiency in a method of producing acrolein and/or acrylic acid by the catalytic gas phase oxidation of propylene-containing gas.

SOLUTION: The catalyst, for producing acrolein by the catalytic gas phase oxidation of propylene in the presence of molecular oxygen or molecular oxygen-containing gas, is an oxide catalyst containing molybdenum, bismuth, and iron as essential components. The catalytic component has an L*value, an a*value, and a b*value in the L*a*b*color system in the ranges of 30≤L*≤60, 0≤a*≤5, and 5≤b*≤14.
