A simplified bicycle chain transmission has a central bearing (1) to which is fitted a ring plate (2) via slot and pin connections. The chain (11) is looped over guide wheels (8) mounted on levers hinged on the assembly to position the guide wheels at varying spacing from the axis and thereby vary the transmission ratio in a progressive manner.
