<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow an alignment plate to be advanced into and retracted from a transfer passage without providing a large vertical moving space of the alignment plate. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A printer includes a fascia section for inserting a passbook T or a statement paper Sb; a transfer means performing transfer along the transfer passage 6b; a dot head performing printing on the passbook T or the statement paper Sb transferred by the transfer means; an alignment roller 33 disposed between the dot head and the fascia section and moving the passbook T transferred by the transfer means in a direction orthogonal to the transfer direction thereof; the alignment plate 34 advanced into the transfer passage 6b and abutting the passbook T transferred by the alignment roller 33 thereon to be aligned with respect to the dot head; and a drive mechanism 35 advanced into and retracted from the transfer passage 6b by turning the alignment plate 34.
