An inserter for a transcutaneous sensor which is able to register components such as glucose in the blood of the patient is disclosed. The object of the invention is to provide an easily disposable inserter for a transcutaneous sensor which is convenient and safe for the user to use. The inserter comprises a needle unit containing a needle hub and a carrier body (4); and a sensor housing (3). The sensor housing (3) and the needle hub are releasably connected and when they are connected, the insertion needle (6) is placed along the sensor (5). The carrier body (4) guides the movement of the needle relative to the housing (1) between a retracted and advanced position. When released, the needle unit and the sensor housing (3) are forced by a spring unit to the advanced position where the needle (6) and sensor (5) are placed under the skin.
