<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an influence of light quantity unevenness on a book original without using a diffusion member. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image reader includes an original table where an original is placed, a light source unit which moves in a first direction relative to the original and has a plurality of light sources arranged successively in the first direction, and a selection means. In particular, the selection means selects light sources to be turned on and to be turned off out of the plurality of light sources in accordance with the movement position of the light source unit in the first direction.
