PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen analyzer for metal material and a method for the same, capable of precisely analyzing hydrogen in the metal material, based on an emission intensity of the hydrogen which emits light, in response to the irradiation of laser onto the surface of the metal material in a helium gas atmosphere. SOLUTION: A measurement region in the surface of the metal material S is set into the helium gas atmosphere, by supplying helium gas from a gas cylinder 8 into a sealed container 2. Then, the measurement region is irradiated with laser light from a laser irradiation section 5, thereby bringing the helium gas to be in its plasma state so as not to cause ablation at the measurement region. The light generated inside the helium gas in its plasma state in the laser irradiation is transmitted from an optical fiber 15 to an analyzing section 16, and the hydrogen contained in the measurement region is analyzed quantitatively from the emission intensity of an emission wavelength of the hydrogen.
