<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear movement device capable of obtaining high positional accuracy at stopping without using a gear with a highly costing shape. <P>SOLUTION: The linear movement device 1 is equipped with a linear rack 13 provided with a plurality of teeth 13T, an main pinion 24 engaged with the teeth 13T of the rack 13, a slave pinion 25 engaged with the teeth 13T of the rack 13 at a position away from the active pinion 24, a main motor 22 rotatively driving the main pinion 24, a slave motor 23 rotatively driving the slave pinion 25, and a moving carriage 20 fixed with the main motor 22 and the slave motor 23 and moving along the rack 13 following the rotation drive of the main motor 22 and the slave motor 23.
