<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the unauthorized acquisition of software for a vehicle failure diagnostic device provided using a general-purpose network, or unauthorized use in the vehicle failure diagnostic device not having the use authority of the software. <P>SOLUTION: This vehicle failure diagnostic device includes: a vehicle failure diagnostic terminal connected with an in-vehicle electronic controller mounted in a vehicle, performing the failure diagnosis of the vehicle; and a software distribution system connected to the vehicle failure diagnostic terminal via the network, and distributing the software for the vehicle failure diagnostic terminal to the vehicle failure diagnostic terminal, and update.
