<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To specify a broken portion causing supercharging failure when the supercharging failure occurs. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An ECU 30 diagnoses whether or not the supercharging failure occurs in an engine 10 based on the actual boost pressure. The ECU 30 diagnoses that air is leaked between a supercharger 13 and the engine 10 when it diagnoses that the supercharging failure occurs and the actual intake air volume is larger than a normal intake volume, and diagnoses that the supercharger 13 fails when the actual intake air volume is smaller than the normal intake air volume.
