PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a suction device of which maintenance work is simplified without causing any trouble in preservation of a functional liquid droplet discharge head and a droplet discharge apparatus equipped with the suction device. SOLUTION: The droplet discharge apparatus comprises a seal material 77 to be detachably attached to a functional liquid droplet discharge head 25 for discharging a functional liquid by an ink-jet system, a suction cap 58 having a suction groove 82 surrounded with the seal material 77, a suction means communicated with the suction groove 82 of the suction cap 58, a solvent supply means communicated with the suction groove 82 of the suction cap 58 for supplying a solvent of the functional liquid, and a control means for controlling the suction means and the solvent supply means. The control means operates the solvent supply means for feeding the suction groove with a solvent for retaining the humidity of the functional liquid droplet discharge head 25 when the suction cap 58 is closely attached to the functional liquid droplet discharge head 25 to carry out the maintenance work for the functional liquid droplet discharge head 25.
