Increasing the number of inflorescences in a Phalaenopsisorchid comprises administering a cytokinin to the orchid and exposing it to a cold period to induce inflorescence formation. Independent claims are also included for: a group of 100 or more Phalaenopsis orchids of the same variety in which the average number of flower spikes is at least 2.9, preferably at least 2.1; #Phalaenopsis orchids with more than four flower spikes.
