<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water cleaning apparatus which has a simple structure and can efficiently clean water. <P>SOLUTION: The water cleaning apparatus 10 is installed in a water storage tank Wt whose water surface is irradiated with sunlight. The water cleaning apparatus 10 is provided with a plurality of basket-shaped containers 21, 22 where at least their periphery is formed with a mesh having high water flowability, and a plurality of massive bodies 3 having a photocatalytic function are accumulated in the basket-shaped containers 21, 22 so as to shade their bottom from sunlight. The basket-shaped containers 21, 22 are layered in a multi-stage manner from the water surface into the water in an area where the ultraviolet rays of sunlight reach. The upper-stage basket-shaped containers 21 and the lower-stage basket-shaped containers 22 are arranged side by side in the horizontal direction so that a plurality of the massive bodies 3 are overlapped in a plane view.
