The device has fastening frames (10) and an actuating plate (30). The actuating plate is pivotably connected with the fastening frames at a pivot bearing i.e. joint, of a bearing device. The actuating plate is pivoted around a lower edge. The actuating plate is attached to a holding frame (12), which is pivotably connected with the fastening frames at the joint. The holding frame supports the actuating plate. The actuating plate is pivoted from an operating position, and an opening (42) is formed during pivoting the actuating plate. An independent claim is also included for a method for inspecting or maintaining a flushing tank.
