<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize a binding position and a binding interval of a sheet in response to a state of the sheet. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This sheet binding device has a sheet binding means for binding two places of the sheet by moving in the direction orthogonal to the sheet carrying direction, and a sheet state determining means for determining the sheet state when binding the sheet by the sheet binding means. The sheet binding means binds the sheet by determining the binding position by referring to a binding position table of associating the sheet state to the binding position of taking into consideration deflection in registration in response to the sheet state determined by the sheet state determining means.
