The method involves spraying polyurethane foam on a face of a flexible substrate, and introducing the substrate into a die of a press. A punch of the press is applied against the substrate during polymerization of the foam to form an upper foam layer (3) of cushioning (2). The foam layer is introduced into a casting mold, and another polyurethane foam is injected into the mold. The mold is closed during polymerization of the latter polyurethane foam to form a lower foam layer (4) of the cushioning. Self-gripping bands (6) are inserted into style return lines of grooves (36) in the die. An independent claim is also included for a cushioning of a trim of a seat element in a motor vehicle.
