<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup device which can optimize operation by servo control according to a type of an optical disk. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The optical pickup device A includes: a lens unit 100 corresponding to a plurality of types of optical disks D; a plurality of focusing coils 13A and 13B and a plurality of tracking coils 14A and 14B for making this lens unit 100 perform focusing operation and tracking operation, respectively. The optical pickup device A further includes: switching circuits SW1 and SW2 for switching a connecting form of focusing coils 13A and 13B and tracking coils 14A and 14B to either a series connection or a parallel connection; an optical disk discrimination part 22 which discriminates the type of the optical disk D; and a switching control part 23 which controls the switching circuits SW1 and SW2 according to the types of the optical disk D discriminated by the optical disk discrimination part 22.
