An open/close mechanism of a media feed path for feeding a sheet medium from a media insertion unit can be rendered with a small parts count without requiring a large installation space. An open/close lever 27 and paper pressure member 26 of a check feeding device 9 can pivot horizontally on a first vertical support shaft 32 and a second vertical support shaft 33. When the paper pressure member 26 is caused to pivot and press against the delivery roller 25, the back end part 27b of the open/close lever 27 is pushed by the paper pressure member 26, the open/close lever 27 pivots, and the front end part 27a thereof retracts from the check feed path 23. Because the open/close lever 27 is urged in a pivot direction causing the front end part 27a to enter the check feed path 23, when the paper pressure member 26 returns to the position not pressed against the delivery roller 25, the open/close lever 27 pivots in this urging direction and returns to the position where the front end part 27a closes the check feed path 23.
