<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive muffler capable of easily increasing the density of a large portion of acoustic incidence energy and reducing the emission sound of a shell in a wide frequency region. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The muffler includes the shell 13 to which an inlet pipe 11 and an outlet pipe 12 for the exhaust gas to pass through are connected and in which a muffling space 16 for introducing and ejecting exhaust gas is formed, and at least one partition plate 14 provided inside the shell 13 to partition the muffling space 16 into an expansion chamber 17 and a resonator chamber 19. The partition plate 14 forming the expansion chamber 17 located upstream in exhaust introducing-ejecting direction out of a plurality of chambers 17, 19 is mounted with a mass body 21 adding mass to the partition plate 14.
