<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a barbed suture which has a sufficient knot tensile strength, makes the gap formation of a wound minimum, and can promote the healing of the wound. <P>SOLUTION: The barbed suture 10 is for connecting tissue and a combination of a surgical needle and the barbed suture 10 is also provided. The suture includes a slender body 12 and a plurality of barbs 17, 19, 18, and 20 which project from the body. By each barb, the suture resists movement in a direction opposite from which the barb faces. The arrangement of the barbs on the body is sometimes zigzag type arrangement, twist cut multiple spiral, overlapping, or random. Further, the composition of the barbs is sometimes a certain spiral angle α, a reverse prickle cutting angle θ, a barb cut angle, barb cut length, barb cut distance, corrugated barb underside, arcuate barb base, or varying barb size. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
