<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an encryption system that prevents the breakdown of the whole system even if one of servers fails. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An encryption system includes a plurality of servers, an encryption device, and a decryption device. When there is no defective server, the decryption device receives confidential information from a server selected by the encryption device or the decryption device and uses it for decryption. When the selected server becomes defective, the decryption device receives confidential information from the other server. In a first encryption system, the encrypted text includes individual session information and individual encrypted text of each of all the servers. In a second encryption system, a server secret key for all the servers is shared among all the servers.
