PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep the linearity of display gradation in a display image and to improve an image displaying quality. SOLUTION: A plasma display device is provided with: a total cell lighting rate detection circuit 46 for detecting the rate of the number of discharge cells to be turned on to the total number of discharge cells in a display area of a plasma display panel 10; a partial lighting rate detection circuit 47 for dividing the display area of the plasma display panel 10 into a plurality of regions and detecting the rate of the number of discharge cells to be turned on to the number of discharge cells in each of the regions; and a look-up table for previously storing a plurality of correction coefficients in relation with the total cell lighting rate and the partial lighting rates, and reading any one of the correction coefficients according to the total cell lighting rate and the partial lighting rates. The device is configured so as to generate sustain pulses corresponding to the number of sustain pulses corrected by the correction coefficient read from the look-up table in each subfield.
