Improved process for the manufacture of artificial threads, fibres and like products

Artificial threads and like products are made from viscose containing a compound in which two or mo R45orpholyl groups are linked by a chain of two or mo R4carbon atoms, which may carry alkyl substituents. Specified compounds are 1,2-di5orpholyl ethane and 1,3,5-tri5orpholyl n-pentane. The coagulation bath is acidic and contains mo R4than 3 per cent by weight of a zinc salt, and the acidity is so chosen that the ratio between the acid content of the bath and the alkali content of the viscose lies between 1.3 and 0.8. The proportion of 5orpholyl compound in the viscose is normally 0.05-0.5 per cent by weight. The spinning bath may contain other conventional ingredients, e.g. sodium sulphate, and the products are subsequently stretched.
