A hedge-cutter has a power-driven reciprocating mower-bar 16 carried at one end of a beam 17 which is pivotally mounted for rotation about a longitudinal axis upon a part carried by a pair of arms 4 pivoted on a tractor chassis 1 and raised and lowered by rams 5. In Figure 1 the beam 17 is pivoted on an axle 10 projecting from a beam 7 pivoted to the two arms 4 about a transverse axis and adjustable thereabout by a turnbuckle. The cutter 16 is driven by a motor 18 at one end of the beam 17, the arrangement being substantially balanced about the axle 10 so that the beam may be swung by a handle 38, into an inclined position. The fixed cutter is carried by an arm 27 rotatable about the axis of the driving pulley 21 and may be secured in any position relative to another arm 34 by a bolt 33. The arm 34 with a parallel arm 36 and a link 35 forms a parallel-motion linkwork causing the cutter 16 always to remain parallel to itself on moving the beam 17. The cutter can be swung back over the beam and the latter raised to the dotted position for transport. In Figure 5, the beam 64 is carried by a pivot 63 carried by brackets hanging from a beam 40 pivoted to the arms 4, the beam having an integral bracket 42a which receives the end of a rod 45 slidably and yieldingly passed through an aperture in a cross-bar 52. The bar 52 is pivoted between arms 53 which, together with the arms 4, bracket 42 and rod 45, forms a parallel linkwork. The springs 50, 51 permit the beam 40 and cutter bar to swing back slightly on meeting obstructions. The brackets 56, 61 embrace the beam 40 and carry a roller 62 enabling the beam 64 and cutter to be adjusted transversely by releasing locking-bolts 58. For transport the beam 64 may be removed from the pivot 63 and a tube 72 on the beam engaged with the pivot so that the beam and cutters extend longitudinally. |
