An inhaler 20 for dispensing metered doses of a medicament includes a passageway 80, 82 through which the inhalation breath of a user will flow, and a collapsible retainer 24, 66 movable between a first configuration (as shown) in which a medicament container 22 is retained in a stowed position and a second configuration in which the retainer is collapsed so that the medicament container can move to a discharge position in which medicament is dispensed into the passageway. A latch 34 releasably supports the collapsible retainer in the first configuration and is operable in response to flow of inhalation breath in the passageway to move out of engagement with the collapsible retainer to allow the retainer to collapse into the second configuration and thereby medicament to be dispensed into the breath as the patient inhales.
