SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR GENERATING AND DISPLAYING PANORAMIC IMAGE AND MOVING IMAGE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new and improved system and method for generating and displaying a stereoscopic panoramic image.

SOLUTION: The system (10) generates a pair of stereoscopic panoramic mosaic images including the right (31R) and left (31L) panoramic mosaic images of a certain scene from a series of images (30(i)) of a scene corresponding to images recorded by a movable camera (13) from different positions. The system includes: right and left panoramic image generator (12) configured to receive data representing a plurality of images from a storage medium separated from the recording medium of the camera, and to determine a plurality of first (30L(n)) image strips and a plurality of second (30R(n)) image strips from the data, and to form continuous left panoramic images by performing mosaic processing to the plurality of first image strips, and to form continuous right panoramic images by performing mosaic processing to the plurality of second image strips; and a means for displaying each of the right and left panoramic images as a stereoscopic panorama to a viewer.
