<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dye-sensitized solar cell having high open end voltage and further inducing photocurrent under long wavelength sunlight with high efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: The metal complex dye includes a metal atom, and a ligand coordinated to the metal atom, which ligand includes an oligopyridine skeleton of general formula (1), a hydrophobic group and a carboxy group wherein the hydrophobic group and the carboxy group are bonded to the oligopyridine skeleton directly or via a divalent organic group.
