The method involves setting a starting location and a destination, and determining a driving route from the starting location to the destination and an associated journey time. An additional time is set. Another driving route from the starting position to the destination is determined for another journey time, which is sum of the former journey time and the additional time. Corresponding information is displayed and/or a driver is recommended to travel in the former route when the latter route does not work. An independent claim is also included for a navigation system for a vehicle.
