PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication apparatus which avoids the increase of processing load. SOLUTION: The communication apparatus includes: an alive information storage unit 150 wherein state information showing states of external apparatus is stored; a request receiving unit 111 which receives Who-Is from external apparatus; a determination unit 141 which determines positions in a transmission sequence, where respective apparatus should transmit Who-Is, on the basis of determination information assigned to the external apparatus and the communication apparatus when the time spent till reception of next Who-Is is longer than a time threshold; a Who-Is transmission unit 130 which transmits Who-Is to a network at intervals of a prescribed time when the position in the transmission sequence of the communication apparatus is lower than a sequence threshold; a response receiving unit 112 which receives I-Am as an answer to Who-Is from external apparatus; and an updating unit 121 which updates state information of an external apparatus from which I-Am cannot be received, to state information showing the occurrence of abnormal conditions.
