PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continue to supply bubbles to an applying part by residual pressure in a bubble generating part and a bubble conveying route even if bubble generating operation is stopped when generating bubbles to be applied to a recording medium. SOLUTION: This image forming apparatus includes a recording head unit 101 forming images on paper 100, and a bubble applicator 200 applying bubbles 210 obtained by forming at least one processing liquid out of liquid and gel into bubbles, to the paper 100. When supplying bubbles, the processing liquid 201 is supplied to a bubble generating container 220 from a container 202 by a pump 203 through a supply/discharge route 204, and gas 222 is supplied to the bubble generating container 220 from a gas supply means 221 to generate bubbles 210a. When stopping the supply of bubbles, the generation of bubbles is stopped, and the pump 203 is reversely driven to return the processing liquid 201 into the container 202 from the bubble generating container 220.
