<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a conductor of an electric wire for a motor vehicle constituted of a copper-coated aluminum composite wire lighter and more inexpensive than conventional cooper wire and CP wire, contributing to weight reduction and fuel saving of a vehicle, with excellent bending property and tensile strength, coping with recent complication and line thinning of harness wiring. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The conductor includes a core material 3 made of an aluminum-magnesium-based alloy of the magnesium content of 2.2-5.6 wt.%, an intermediate layer 4 made of copper or a copper alloy and laminated on the outer side of the core material 3, and a reinforcing layer 2 made of nickel or a nickel alloy coated on the outer side of the intermediate layer 4.
