PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detergent composition for a hard surface, which is homogeneous, has high safety, excellent cleaning properties of various stains, repeated cleaning properties and rinsing properties in narrow gaps, good foaming resistance in cleaning and rinsing and a cleaning method using the detergent composition. SOLUTION: The detergent composition for a hard surface comprises (A) 0.25-15.0 wt.% of a glyceryl ether, (B) 1.0-60.0 wt.% of a nonionic surfactant having an HLB of 12.0-18.0, (C) 1.0-10.0 wt.% of a hydrocarbon, (D) 1.0-20.0 wt.% of a glycol ether and (E) water. The nonionic surfactant of the component (B) is represented by formula: R-X-(EO)<SB>m</SB>(PO)<SB>n</SB>-H. The weight ratio (the component (B)/the component (A)) of the component (B) to the component (A) of 4/1-8/1.
