<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which causes no contrast inversion and, moreover, obtains high contrast in a wide observation direction and observation angle. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device comprises: a homogeneous-aligned liquid crystal element 1; first and second polarizing plates 12, 13 arranged so as to hold the liquid crystal element 1 therebetween; first and second discotic liquid crystal films 14, 15 arranged between the liquid crystal element 1, and the first polarizing plate 12 and the second polarizing plate 13; a first uniaxial phase plate 16 and a first biaxial phase plate 18 which are arranged so as to be superimposed on each other between the first uniaxial phase plate 12 and the first discotic liquid crystal film 14; and a second uniaxial phase plate 17 and a second biaxial phase plate 19 which are arranged so as to be superimposed on each other between the second polarizing plate 13 and the second discotic liquid crystal film 15. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
