PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a welding material capable of preventing generation or growth of stress corrosion cracking or the like at a welded part of austenitic stainless steel of devices and pipes or the like in a nuclear power plant, and to provide a method for preventive maintenance using the welding material. SOLUTION: The welding material 1 consisting of austenitic stainless steel contains, by weight,≤0.01% C,≤0.5% Si,≤0.5% Mn,≤0.005% P,≤0.005% S, 15.0-40.0% Ni, 20.0-30.0% Cr,≤0.01% N, and≤0.01% O.
