PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt type fixing device which has improved durability and reliability by preventing the occurrence of distortion of a fixing belt due to thermal variations. SOLUTION: When a fixing operation of a fixing device 27 is performed, a fixing driving roller 49 is rotationally driven in a direction of an arrow h by a driving gear 56, and a turning arm 57 is slidably and rotationally driven in a rotation direction of the fixing driving roller 49 against an urging force of an urging member 61 and comes into contact with a stopper 58 to not only stop rotational movement but also bring a belt cleaning roller 59 into press contact with a fixing belt 53 to moderately stretch the fixing belt 53. When the fixing operation of the fixing device 27 is not performed, the driving gear 56 is stopped, and the fixing driving roller 49 stops rotation, and slidable and rotational driving of the turning arm 57 is released, and the turning arm 57 is turned in a direction of an arrow i by the urging force of the urging member 61 to separate the belt cleaning roller 59 from the fixing belt 53.
