PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus for performing image processing in accordance with composition intended by a photographer. SOLUTION: Regional data are created from edge information or depth information of an image by dividing the image into a region in which an object is positioned, a region of background and a depth change region wherein a depth changes smoothly. By referring to the edge information, the depth information, the regional data and a table of composition provided in this image processing apparatus beforehand, composition of the entire image is inferred, a composition skeleton region, that becomes a skeleton of the composition, is determined and different image processings are performed in accordance with the skeleton region of the composition and the other region.
