<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning device which changes the contact pressure or contact angle of a blade member to an image carrier to prevent an oscillation and a noise. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The cleaning device includes: a cleaning blade which includes a blade member which contacts an image carrier to clean a remaining toner and a holder for holding the blade member; and a noise-detecting means which is arranged in the vicinity of the blade member or holder and detects a noise. When a noise level detected by the noise-detecting means exceeds a preliminarily set threshold value, the cleaning device changes the frictional force of the blade member to the image carrier.
