The device has a rotatably supported gear rim operated by a drive (12), and another gear rim (13) rotatably supported adjacent to the former rim and operated by another drive (14). A blade (15) is provided on the latter rim, and comprises a cutting edge. The blade is controlled by a rotation speed difference of the former rim to the latter rim in order to cut a sleeve. A linear movement unit (22) i.e. linear drive, linearly moves the rims back and forth along a plane between the drives. The sleeve is guided through an inner hole (11) of the rims. An independent claim is also included for a method for cutting tube segments of an endless sleeve.
