PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply evaluate the liquefaction strength and deformation of partially-improved ground. SOLUTION: (i) Shear stressτ<SB>d</SB>generated in the ground before improvement during earthquakes is computed; (ii) a shear strainγ<SB>i</SB>of the ground before the improvement is computed on the basis of the shear stressτ<SB>d</SB>; (iii) an equivalent shear stiffness G<SB>eq</SB>of the partially-improved ground after the improvement is computed; (iv) the shear strainγ<SB>i</SB>generated in the unimproved ground between improvement bodies in the ground after the improvement is determined; (v) the equivalent shear stiffness G<SB>eq</SB>is redetermined depending on the shear strainγ<SB>i</SB>; (vi) the shear strainγ<SB>i</SB>is determined by carrying out computations until the shear strainγ<SB>i</SB>is converged into a constant value, by means of the redetermined equivalent shear stiffness G<SB>eq</SB>; and (vii) an excess pore water pressure ratioΔu/σ<SB>ν</SB>' generated in the unimproved ground is determined according to the determined shear strainγ<SB>i</SB>, and the liquefaction strength of the partially-improved ground is evaluated on the basis of the excess pore water pressure ratioΔu/σ<SB>ν</SB>'. Additionally, (viii) an external force acting on the improved body is computed; and (ix) the deformation of the partially-improved ground is evaluated on the basis of the equivalent shear stiffness G<SB>eq</SB>and the external force.
