PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tunnel boring machine which can flexibly cope with complicated natural ground, can positively avoid a circumstance in which driving between defective natural ground portions cannot be achieved, and contributes to high-speed construction of a tunnel. SOLUTION: The tunnel boring machine consists of a parent machine 1 and a child machine 2. The parent machine 1 includes an excavating means 11 for crushing the natural ground in a face, a thrust imparting means 12 for imparting thrust required for crushing to the excavating means 11, a reaction obtaining means 13 for obtaining reaction required for excavation from a pit wall, and a discharging means 14 for rearward discharging a crushed matter crushed by the excavating means 11. The child machine 2 includes all the means mentioned above, and can freely carry out either driving of the natural ground present in front of the parent machine 1, in a manner being independent from the parent machine 1, within an excavated section which is to be included in an excavated section by the parent machine 1, or driving of the natural ground together with the parent machine 1. |
