<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reproduce video images by a correct aspect ratio even when information with an incorrect aspect ratio is transmitted in a video output device conforming to a specification for transmitting and receiving the information of video signals. <P>SOLUTION: A television 1 includes an HDMI_RX chip 2, a sound processing part 30, a display part 52 and a video processing part 50. The HDMI_RX chip 2 receives video signals, sound signals and the information (M value) of the aspect ratio added thereto from a DVD player 101. The HDMI_RX chip 2 records the information of the aspect ratio in a first register 21. An MPU 6 determines whether or not a value corresponding to a concrete aspect ratio is input to the HDMI_RX chip 2 and whether or not the received information of the aspect ratio corresponds to the resolution of the received video signal on the specification.
