<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: it has taken time and effort to operate a system, wherein a reader is provided with a function button so as to simplify reading start procedures and a functional application is called from an information processing terminal to process read image data, because it is impossible to preliminarily recognize what set values relating to a read and output function assigned to the function button are and confirmation of these set values requires invocation of an application which manages settings of the function button, in the information processing terminal. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In an image reading system including an image reader having a function input key for outputting image data read from a document and an information processing terminal which receives image data output from the image reader and displays window screens for various settings on the image reader, there is provided a control means which controls switching among the window screens on the information processing terminal in accordance with a state of the reader in operating the function input key.
